Body Image Counseling
Find joy in your today body.
Your body has changed, and it’s hard to adjust. The clothes you wore last season no longer fit, and getting dressed feels like a battle. Some days, you just want to crawl under the covers and hide from the world.
It’s common to struggle with body image, even when eating itself isn’t an issue. Society’s impossible beauty standards are constantly shifting, and over time your body may have been judged, scrutinized, or criticized—leaving you feeling disconnected and discouraged.
But here’s the good news: you don’t need to change your body in order to feel more at home in it.
Almost being late for work because you’re changing outfits multiple times
Cancelling plans because you feel too self-conscious about your body
Picking yourself apart in the mirror (or avoiding mirrors altogether)
Hiding in oversized clothes
Dodging the camera
Worrying that you won’t be loved or accepted in the body you have now
Do any of these sound familiar?
You are not alone.
In a world where children as young as 3 worry about “being fat,” and where 61% of adults describe feeling “negative or very negative” about their bodies, it’s clear that body image struggles affect us all.
But your goal doesn’t have to be loving your body. Sometimes the next step is body acceptance, or even just body neutrality—reaching a place where your body doesn’t determine your worth or keep you from living fully.
I work from a weight-neutral, Health at Every Size (HAES) approach, which means we’ll focus on finding peace with your body as it is today, without needing to conform to society's standards. HAES emphasizes health, care, and dignity for every body, no matter its size.
I’ll never shy away from the hard conversations about body image and your experiences. Together, we’ll make space for the grief of the body you longed to have. And when (or if) you’re ready, I’ll walk alongside you as you take small steps toward peace and acceptance in the body you have now. You are already worthy of love, joy, and belonging.
Dear reader in a larger body,
I know that body acceptance can feel especially challenging given the harsh, unfair realities of living in an anti-fat society.
Society often judges and excludes people based on size. I recognize that you may be seeking body changes for reasons like better access to healthcare, fitting comfortably in seats, finding clothes, or avoiding judgment.
As a straight-sized person who doesn’t share that lived reality, I will never claim to know exactly what it feels like for you. And I will never tell you what to do about your body, including whether or not you should try to lose weight.
What I can offer is a safe, compassionate space to explore peace and healing in the body you have now—while respecting your personal journey. I’ve seen people experience deeper freedom and self-acceptance without changing their bodies, and I’d be honored to walk with you toward that same possibility.
