Body Image Counseling
Find joy in your today body.
Your body has changed, and you’re struggling to adjust. The clothes you bought last season aren’t fitting, and getting dressed is a nightmare. You want to crawl under the covers and hide from the world.
Most of us struggle with body image issues at some time or another, regardless of whether eating is a challenge. It’s impossible to fully meet society’s everchanging standards, and your body may have been policed since childhood.
The good news is you don’t have to change your body to have a better time in it.
Almost being late for work due to changing your outfit several times
Cancelling plans due to feeling self-conscious about your body
Picking yourself apart in the mirror (or avoiding mirrors altogether)
Hiding your body in oversized clothes
Avoiding being in pictures
Worrying that you won’t be loved in the body you have now
Do any of these sound like you?
You’re not alone.
Female children as young as 3 are worried about “being fat,” and 61% of adults typically feel “negative or very negative” about their bodies.
Your goal doesn’t have to be to love what your body looks like. Maybe you’d rather focus on body acceptance or neutrality—getting to a place where how you feel about your body doesn’t prevent you from living your life. We can get you there.
I’ll never shy away from the hard conversations around body image and your experiences. I’ll sit in the suck with you as you grieve the body you wanted. And when you’re ready I’ll walk with you as you take steps toward living in the body you have. You are worthy of love and happiness right now.
Dear reader in a larger body,
Through no fault of your own, body acceptance may be harder for you.
We live in an anti-fat society where people are unfairly judged and excluded based on their size. And while I work from a weight-neutral, Health-at-Every-Size (HAES) approach, I realize some may be pursuing weight loss for reasons such as accessing healthcare, fitting in airplane seats, being able to buy clothes in-store, or not being judged.
As a straight-sized person who doesn’t share your lived experience, I will never try to dictate whether you try to lose weight. And I want you to know that people have achieved greater peace in their here-and-now bodies. I’d love to help you do the same.
